Zight captures screenshots, screen recordings, GIFs, and webcam video, then turns them into shareable links for quick visual explanations.
Zight, previously known as CloudApp, sits in the useful space between a screenshot utility and a lightweight asynchronous video tool. It is particularly handy when written instructions would require several paragraphs: reproducing a software bug, reviewing a design, explaining a support fix, or showing a colleague where to find something.
The desktop app stays close at hand, so starting a capture takes little effort. Once uploaded, the result opens on a hosted page that can be pasted into Slack, email, Jira, Zendesk, or a project ticket. Recipients do not need Zight installed to view it. Screenshots can be marked up with arrows, text, shapes, and blur tools, while recordings can include microphone and camera input. The editing tools cover corrections and quick feedback, but they are not intended for polished video production.
The free account works for testing the capture-and-share workflow, though recording limits and storage allowances make it restrictive for regular professional use. Paid individual and team plans raise those limits and add capabilities such as branding, richer viewer insights, administration, and AI-assisted handling of recorded content. Enterprise arrangements focus on identity controls, security requirements, and centralized management.
The hosted library is convenient, but it can become untidy when captures are created rapidly and never organized. Longer uploads also lose some of the instant feel that makes Zight attractive. Teams mainly needing local screenshots may find the account and cloud-storage layer unnecessary. For distributed groups that routinely explain visual work, however, the reduced back-and-forth can justify a paid seat.
