The short version
We collect the minimum needed to run a community platform: your email, the content you post, and privacy-respecting analytics. We don’t run third-party ad trackers, we don’t sell data, and we never will — our reader-funded model exists precisely so we don’t have to.
What we collect
- Account data — email address, display name and password hash when you register
- Content — comments, votes, saved tools and messages you send us
- Usage data — self-hosted, cookieless analytics (pages viewed, referrer, country-level location)
- Verification signals — when you request a “verified” badge, the evidence you provide (never published)
How we use it
To operate your account, display your comments, prevent fraud and vote manipulation, and understand which guides help readers most.
Emails from us are limited to: account security, replies you’ve asked for, and the newsletter if — and only if — you subscribed. Every marketing email has a one-click unsubscribe.
Who we share it with
Three categories, no exceptions: infrastructure providers under data-processing agreements (hosting, email delivery), authorities when the law genuinely compels us, and a successor entity if AltDora is ever acquired — in which case this policy binds them and you’ll be notified first.
Your rights
Wherever you live, we extend GDPR-grade rights to you:
- Access & portability — export everything we hold about you from your account settings
- Correction — fix your data yourself, or ask us to
- Deletion — delete your account and all associated data, permanently, in one click
- Objection — tell us to stop any processing you don’t like; we’ll comply or explain why we legally can’t
Retention & security
Account data lives as long as your account does, plus 30 days of encrypted backups. Comments from deleted accounts are anonymized, not deleted, to keep discussions intact. All traffic is TLS-encrypted, passwords are hashed with a modern algorithm, and staff access to personal data is logged and least-privilege.
Questions
Privacy questions go to our contact form or [email protected]. We respond within two business days, and you always have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.
