What is Loom?

Where Loom earns its place

Loom works best for communication that benefits from narration and visible context: reproducing a bug, reviewing a design, demonstrating a workflow, onboarding a colleague, or answering a support question. The recorder is approachable enough that teams can adopt it without formal training.

  1. Use it when showing is faster than writing. A short walkthrough often replaces a long message and several clarification replies.
  2. Expect a cloud-first workflow. Recordings upload to Loom and are distributed through hosted links rather than exported files.
  3. Look elsewhere for production work. It handles business walkthroughs well, but it is not a substitute for a full video editor or self-hosted media platform.

The limits behind the free plan

Starter is genuinely useful for occasional recordings, though its five-minute recording limit and 25-video-per-person library cap become restrictive quickly. Business plans are sold per creator and remove the main recording constraints while adding stronger privacy, branding, engagement, and workspace controls. The entry paid plan has typically started around $15 per creator each month with annual billing.

AI tools can generate titles, summaries, chapters, captions, and written material from a recording. Availability and allowances depend on the plan. Larger organizations can add centralized administration and security controls, but per-seat costs make Loom less attractive when many employees need to create videos rather than merely watch them.
