Offer discounts, pay-what-you-want pricing, and multiple purchase options
Independent creators reach for Gumroad to start selling downloads, software, or memberships without assembling a full store. It works best for compact catalogs promoted through an existing audience, where quick setup matters more than deep design control.
After creating a product, sellers can publish a hosted page, connect a custom domain, collect payments, deliver files, and manage refunds from one dashboard. The catalog supports ebooks, templates, software, music, courses, physical goods, and recurring memberships. Buyers receive receipt-based access and can also keep purchases in a Gumroad library. Setup is quick, but page layouts and checkout behavior allow less tailoring than a dedicated commerce stack.
Core access has no monthly subscription. Direct and profile sales carry a 10% fee plus a fixed per-transaction charge; purchases generated through Discover take a much larger percentage. Gumroad operates as merchant of record, so it handles payment collection, refunds, and applicable sales-tax administration. That saves paperwork for solo creators, though the percentage model becomes costly as volume rises. Email updates, affiliates, and basic reporting are included, while advanced segmentation and store operations remain thin.
