Polygon and NURBS modeling
Build detailed hard-surface and organic 3D assets.
Autodesk Maya is a professional 3D suite for modeling, rigging, animation, simulation, and rendering. It is strongest in character animation and studio pipelines for film, television, and games.
Maya is built for demanding 3D production, especially character work and shot-based pipelines. Scene referencing, namespaces, scripting hooks, and a broad plug-in ecosystem help teams pass assets between modeling, rigging, animation, lighting, effects, and rendering departments. That depth is valuable, but the many editors and project conventions take serious time to learn.
Maya uses paid Autodesk subscriptions rather than perpetual licenses, with monthly and longer-term billing. Eligible students and educators can receive education access. Studios should budget beyond the seat price because capable hardware, render capacity, pipeline support, and specialist plug-ins raise the real cost. Autodesk also offers usage-based Flex access, which can suit occasional work better than a dedicated subscription.
